Colwall CC scooped up three awards at Herefordshire Cricket Ltd’s annual awards ceremony on Friday 28th March. It was a fantastic evening celebrating cricket across the county.
We are delighted to announce Derek Brimmell (Brim) was recognised for his hard work, professionalism and the time he dedicates to our club collecting a Services to Cricket Award.
Here’s what was said of Brim at the awards night:
Derek has been part of CCC since a young boy living in Colwall for all his life, he played mainly for the 2nd team as a wicket keeper and normally a number 11 batsman who in his day could make some useful runs by his favourite shot the “sweep slog”
Derek took over the responsibility of the ground in 1977 after the sudden death of George Berry after previously being a helping hand on the ground. Derek has been ever present since & continues to prepare excellent pitches, across our two beautiful grounds. His kindness to the club has been a factor in making sure we have the best equipment possible as on many occasions Derek has donated his salary in order to take pressure off the club as a whole. The most recent purchase of a Power Roller as used by Lords is now his pride and joy.
Kim Berry, the club’s Chairman said “We will never find anyone again like Derek when he decides to hang up his boots albeit we hope it is not just yet, at 82 years of age Derek is like gold dust for everyone at CCC. We will continue to look after him and when the time is right say a huge thank you to a man who is simply irreplaceable. Derek thoroughly deserves this award and every accolade he receives”
A Services to Cricket Award was also received for Kim Berry, our Chairman.
We are delighted for Kim and are forever grateful for the huge amount of care, energy and dedication he gives to our club.
Here’s what was said of Kim at the awards night:
Since taking over as Chair of Colwall CC in 2016, Kim has transformed the club. With over 250 juniors and a funded junior coaching academy programme, the future pipeline for the club looks very healthy. Kim has led the development of a new club strategy, which will focus on growing the games for all young players, resourcing and supporting the rapid growth of our women and girls section, and connecting communities through first class and environmentally sustainable facilities.
Perhaps most importantly, Kim has bought others along with him, growing the depth of support. This has helped to modernise and drive forwards all aspects of the club.
Colwall looks forward to hosting two of Herefordshire's women's fixtures this season, in addition to the ECB disability franchise match on 7 September.
The third award collected by CCC was the Community Club of the Year Award.
To have our growing junior section recognised in this category is something the whole club can take pride in - the buzz of 250+ girls and boys at CCC on Friday nights starts again in just 3 weeks on 25th April @ 6.30pm … we cannot wait!!!
